Assapheum | Conference Center & Parking

The Assapheum in Bielefeld-Bethel is more than just an event space: it is a place for encounters, culture, conversations, and shared experiences. Officially, the location is described as a community and assembly hall as well as a concert and conference venue. It is located at Bethelplatz 1, right in the middle of an area closely associated with education, diaconia, memorial culture, and everyday life in Bethel. This mix is what makes the location appealing. Visitors to the Assapheum do not experience the anonymous atmosphere of any event hall, but a place with a clear identity, functional usability, and a strong connection to the surroundings. The Assapheum is also known as an accessible venue where people who avoid or cannot easily use traditional concert or conference venues can participate. This is particularly evident in formats like the family concerts of the series "Klassik um 3," which explicitly focus on accessibility and openness. At the same time, the venue is suitable for lectures, receptions, church events, and professional days, thus directly connecting culture and practical use. Its location at Bethelplatz also makes it an important component within the campus structure of Bethel. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Bethel/Website/Aktuelles/Publikationen/Infomaterial/rundgang.pdf))

The surroundings are as formative as the building itself. The Bethelplatz is presented in the official Bethel description as a place for festivities, relaxation, and remembrance. It is thus not only a traffic and leisure area but a deliberately designed place with social and historical dimensions. Directly next to the Assapheum are other facilities that enliven the environment, including the Bethel community library, which is located at the back of the Assapheum, as well as other buildings of the Bethel area. This neighborhood creates short paths for guests, staff, speakers, and audiences. This is particularly interesting for conferences and concert formats, where orientation, good accessibility, and a reliable environment play an important role. Those seeking images, impressions, or a contextualization of the atmosphere will find a good impression of how closely the Assapheum is connected to Bethelplatz and the rest of the campus in the Bethel tour and event announcements. The name detail is also noteworthy: The name Assapheum refers to Asaph, the psalm singer, which symbolically connects the place with music, community, and spiritual tradition. Thus, the naming already makes it clear that this is not just a room, but a deliberately shaped event venue. Conference Center and Concert Venue with a Clear Profile

As a conference center, the Assapheum has a distinct profile: It is not just any hall in Bethel, but a place used for very different formats, proving its worth precisely because of this. In the official texts from Bethel, the building is referred to as a large conference center in Bielefeld-Bethel. This classification is important because it shows that the Assapheum is not only intended for smaller encounters but also for events with a larger reach. The Bielefeld Participation Congress 2026 will take place here, as will other congresses and professional events in previous years, and other central Bethel dates have also been held at the Assapheum. This speaks to a flexible, resilient infrastructure and the ability of the venue to accommodate very different target groups. The use as a conference venue is also not to be seen in isolation from Bethel's self-understanding: the place is embedded in an environment that brings together education, participation, and diaconal work. Those looking for a location that combines professional seriousness with a human, calm atmosphere will find a suitable answer here. This is particularly attractive for organizers because the place radiates a credible attitude through its history and surroundings. The Assapheum thus stands not only for space but for context. And it is precisely this context that makes it so interesting for congresses, training sessions, and professional days. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Bethel/Website/Sonderseiten/Jahresbericht/Bethel-Bilanz_2021.pdf))

As a concert venue, the Assapheum is also clearly positioned. Bethel regularly announces concerts there, including the series "Klassik um 3," which is presented as a family concert with musical diversity at the Assapheum. Particularly noteworthy is that the concerts explicitly take place at an accessible venue. This means that the Assapheum is not only musically but also socially accessible. The combination of concert, coffee and cake break, and a second musical part shows that a relaxed, low-threshold access to culture is created here. At the same time, the venue can also accommodate significant social moments: During the introduction of the new chairman of the v. Bodelschwingh Foundations Bethel, more than 200 guests gathered for a festive reception at the Assapheum. Such formats demonstrate that the space is suitable for both cultural closeness and representative occasions. The special value lies in the fact that the Assapheum does not rely on loud staging but on clarity, accessibility, and functionality. For this reason, it is well-suited for cultural formats, corporate events, official celebrations, and content-demanding meetings. The location thus combines two qualities that are rarely found together: an open, almost homely atmosphere and a resilient event logic. Access by Tram, Bus, and Car

Traveling to the Assapheum is well-planned thanks to the official Bethel guidelines. From Bielefeld Central Station, Bethel can be reached by tram line 1 towards Senne; the stop is named Bethel. This is the simplest and least stressful option for many visitors, especially when an event takes place at the Assapheum itself, in the immediate vicinity, or on the Bethel site. Additionally, Bethel mentions bus line 122, which connects 16 stops in Bethel and starts and ends at the Gadderbaum Bethel stop. This local networking is important because it makes the area accessible to people traveling within Bielefeld or from neighboring districts. For access by car, Bethel also provides official directions. From Dortmund, the route leads via A2 and A33 or the Ostwestfalendamm/B61, then via Artur-Ladebeck-Straße into Quellenhofweg. From Hanover, the route is described via Bielefeld-East, Detmolder Straße, Osningstraße, Bodelschwinghstraße, and Quellenhofweg. This information is particularly valuable for guests seeking clear orientation before their first visit. Thus, while the Assapheum is located within a clearly defined campus, it is easily accessible via the main axes of the city. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Bethel/Website/Ueber_Bethel/Das_ist_Bethel/Ortsplan_neu_05_2024_RZ_korr_0924.pdf))

For visitors, orientation on-site is just as important as the journey itself. The official map of Bethel marks the Assapheum as a fixed point within the area and shows that the pathways on the premises are clearly structured. Especially during congresses or larger events, guests benefit from not having to search for long, but rather being able to make a clear assignment. The Bethelplatz and the surrounding buildings form a compact ensemble that can be easily accessed on foot. This is particularly helpful when an event is associated with breaks, side appointments, or a change between different rooms. For the Assapheum, this means: once arrived, one can easily place the location within the overall context of Bethel. The proximity to the Zionskirche, the community library, and other facilities makes orientation pleasant and comprehensible. Additionally, the location is designed so that both day visitors and participants with longer stays have functional access. For this reason, the Assapheum is suitable not only for occasional evening events but also for all-day formats, training sessions, official receptions, and series with multiple program points. The journey is thus not a secondary issue but a genuine part of the usage concept. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Bethel/Website/Ueber_Bethel/Das_ist_Bethel/Ortsplan_neu_05_2024_RZ_korr_0924.pdf))

Parking at Bethelplatz and in the Village of Bethel

When it comes to parking, Bethel works together with the city of Bielefeld. This is an important practical note because visitors must expect different regulations depending on whether they use a municipal parking space or a designated Bethel parking lot. City parking spaces can be used on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. with a parking disc for a maximum of two hours or with a valid parking ticket; the machine is located at Kantensiek. For the designated parking spaces of the v. Bodelschwingh Foundations Bethel, a paid daily pass is required on weekdays, which can be obtained at the reception in Dankort, at the gate of the main administration at Königsweg 1, or in the Bethel bookstore. This is particularly useful for event visitors as it avoids unpleasant surprises. Those staying longer or attending an all-day event should plan the parking regulations in advance. The official communication also shows that parking space in Bethel is deliberately organized and not left to chance. This increases the planning reliability for groups, speakers, and guests arriving by their own vehicle. This is a decisive advantage, especially for conferences or congresses, as the parking issue does not have to be resolved on-site. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/kontakt))

Additionally, for certain events, further parking options are explicitly reserved. For the 2nd Bielefeld Participation Congress 2026, for example, Bethel mentions reserved parking spaces in the parking garage at Bethelplatz on Handwerkerstraße 7-1. This shows that the event venue considers parking space organizationally and consolidates additional capacities when needed. For larger events, this is a noticeable advantage as arrival and departure can proceed in an orderly manner. In practice, this means for guests: those who have a ticket, registration, or invitation should read the respective event information carefully, as sometimes specific parking areas are reserved for participants. The Assapheum thus benefits from a parking logic that is flexible yet regulated. For SEO and user intent, this is relevant because search queries related to "parking," "access," and "parking garage" are usually associated with the desire for reliable information. In Bethel, this information is transparently prepared. And anyone who has visited the Assapheum once quickly realizes that the combination of shared parking management, clear signage, and easily accessible location creates a very practical framework. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/teilhabekongress2026))

Small Hall, Accessible Rooms, and the Environment at Bethelplatz

The Assapheum is not limited to a single mode of use. The official Bethel texts show that there is a large event space, but also a small hall in the Assapheum. This smaller room is used by the Bethel community library, which is located at the back of the Assapheum. There, open house days and smaller celebrations have taken place, among other events. For visitors, this is a practical note as it shows that the building is not only suitable for large formats but also for manageable groups, working groups, and neighborhood meetings. Such a room structure is particularly valuable in a conference center: it allows for various group sizes without changing the location. The rooms thus do not appear static but adaptable. The environment additionally contributes to usability. Directly at the square are other facilities such as the Diaconal Community Nazareth and the Institute for Education & Counseling, and the Bethelplatz itself is a clearly defined place between buildings, pathways, and open spaces. This creates a campus character that provides orientation while allowing different uses to coexist. For organizers, this means: the Assapheum can be used for both focused discussions and public appointments. For guests, it means: there are clear paths, understandable responsibilities, and rooms that are oriented towards real needs. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/aktuelles/pressemitteilungen/die-gemeindebuecherei-bethel-wird-50))

Another advantage is the accessible orientation. Bethel explicitly describes the concerts in the Assapheum as offerings at a special, accessible place in Bethel. This is not just a friendly additional feature but a significant quality criterion. It means that culture and encounters should not fail due to structural or organizational hurdles. The series "Klassik um 3" pursues this goal very consistently: after a musical part, there is a break with coffee and cake before the second part begins. This format creates time, calm, and social closeness. The Assapheum is thus suitable for people who might not otherwise feel comfortable in traditional concert venues. At the same time, the location within the Bethel area is designed so that a visit is not limited to the hall. The Bethelplatz is a place for festivities, relaxation, and remembrance; moreover, the memorial to the victims of forced sterilization in Bethel reminds of the historical responsibility of the place. Therefore, those who visit the Assapheum encounter not only a functional event location but a place with attitude, history, and public significance. This combination of accessibility, atmosphere, and memorial culture makes the building in Bielefeld-Bethel particularly special. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/aktuelles/pressemitteilungen/konzert-im-assapheum))

Events at the Assapheum: Concerts, Congresses, and Encounters

The range of events at the Assapheum is remarkable. On one side are cultural formats such as the family concert of the series "Klassik um 3," featuring a brass quintet from the Bielefeld Philharmonic. On the other side, there are professional and social events such as the Bielefeld Participation Congress or larger receptions that generate attention far beyond Bethel. In between are readings, memorial events, church celebrations, and other conference formats. This very range is crucial for the search intent of many users, as they look for a place that not only sounds nice but also functions in practice in a versatile way. The Assapheum meets this expectation: it is not a specialized space for just one format but a flexibly usable place with a clear address and clear application fields. Particularly attractive is that Bethel regularly uses the building for public appointments, making it visible that it is part of the active event life. Therefore, those looking for a place for culture, exchange, or conferences will find a location that appears resilient both in content and organization. The examples from the official announcements also show that not only occasional appointments take place at the Assapheum but recurring series and larger gatherings. This speaks for reliability and a functioning infrastructure. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/aktuelles/pressemitteilungen/konzert-im-assapheum))

Even in extraordinary situations, the Assapheum has demonstrated its suitability. During the Corona period, a vaccination center for Bethel was set up there, further emphasizing the flexibility of the conference house. An event venue that can temporarily take on medical-logistical tasks obviously possesses more than just a standard function. This is important for the classification of the place as it shows that the rooms, location, and accessibility are very robustly planned. At the same time, the cultural and communal character of the house remains intact. In the same environment, one finds the community library, the Zionskirche, and other Bethel facilities, which means that the Assapheum does not appear isolated but is embedded in a vibrant context. The official description of the house as a meeting, concert, and conference venue summarizes this versatility well. Anyone wishing to lead visitors, staff, guests, or speakers to a place with practical usability and a special atmosphere is very likely in the right place. The Assapheum thus exemplifies an event architecture that focuses on participation, clarity, and flexibility. It is a house that cannot be reduced to mere representation or pure function. It is precisely this balance that makes it so valuable for Bielefeld-Bethel. ([bethel.de](https://www.bethel.de/aktuelles/pressemitteilungen/impfstart-fuer-betheler-klinikpersonal))

This was my first time here. It was the Bielefeld Wool Days. The Assapheum is easily accessible. The event was great. Lots of options. The room could have been a bit bigger. It was a bit cramped at times. I enjoyed it, and I’ll definitely be back next time.

We were there for the artisan market, very nice offerings of handmade goods. Food and drinks were also provided. It’s also well-suited for people with walkers/wheelchairs. Our dog was allowed everywhere, though we didn’t try it in the café.

The Assapheum is a very beautiful historic building. Over many years, I have only had good experiences and a positive impression from various events. I just received my first Covid-19 vaccination here. The organization was good and smooth. The helpers - from registration to vaccination to further appointment scheduling - were all very friendly and patient! Now, in the time after the Corona restrictions, normal celebrations and festivals are taking place here again. Always a dignified place.
