Meeting Center Kreuzstraße | Programs & Senior Offers
The Meeting Center Kreuzstraße of the Diakonie for Bielefeld is located at Kreuzstraße 19a on the edge of Bielefeld's city center and is described by the sponsoring organization as a meeting point for active seniors who want to shape their retirement with courses, culture, contact, and companionship. The publicly visible sides connect the house with offerings such as open café hours, language courses, gymnastics, digital assistance, grief café, and leisure mentors. Those looking for a central meeting place in Bielefeld-Mitte will find a socially shaped place for everyday life, exchange, and support here. The location page also presents the house with images and a short profile, which facilitates the first impression and supports the search for photos or a quick overview. ([johanneswerk.de](https://www.johanneswerk.de/angebote/menschen-im-alter/angebot/begegnungszentrum-kreuzstrasse-der-diakonie-fuer-bielefeld/))
Programs and Open Meeting Points at the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße
The heart of the location is the regularly published program. In the PDFs of the Diakonie from 2024 and 2025, similar offerings appear repeatedly: seated and standing gymnastics, open café on several weekdays, advanced English and for interested individuals with prior knowledge, advanced French, watercolor painting and drawing, chess friends, dancing, double head, Rummikub & Co., yoga for seniors, as well as various smartphone and PC formats. This mix shows that the Meeting Center is not limited to a one-time event type but rather focuses on continuity. People can return, deepen acquaintances, and utilize an offering that connects movement, learning, and social closeness in a reliable weekly rhythm. The programs also note that for those with low incomes, a subsidy for courses can be applied for, which further improves accessibility. ([diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de](https://www.diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de/fileadmin/content/pdf/BZ_Kreuzstrasse_Programm_April-Mai_2024.pdf))
Particularly important is the breadth of target groups. The Diakonie classifies the Meeting Center within its senior offerings and describes it as a place for courses, culture, contact, and encounters at one of several locations in Bielefeld. At the same time, it explicitly mentions leisure mentors as a group offering in the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße for leisure activities and daily structuring as well as for individual support in the living environment for older men and women with a mental or psychological disability. This makes it clear: Kreuzstraße is not only a space for leisure but also for support, orientation, and participation. Those looking for a place where learning and community go hand in hand will find a very clear profile here. ([diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de](https://www.diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de/alter-behinderung.html))
Location, Directions, and Accessibility in Bielefeld-Mitte
The location is one of the greatest advantages of the site. Bielefeld.NOW describes the Meeting Center as a house opposite the Neustädter Marienkirche, and the sponsoring organization states the address Kreuzstraße 19a, 33602 Bielefeld. For visitors, this means a central position on the edge of the city center with short distances to many points in Bielefeld-Mitte. This location fits the character of the house as a meeting point: The center is located where urban life, neighborhood, and social offerings converge. Therefore, those coming for the first time will not find a remote facility but rather a well-integrated location in the urban environment. ([bielefeld.jetzt](https://www.bielefeld.jetzt/node/1418041))
For arrival, the public pages emphasize the city rail connection. Bielefeld.NOW mentions line 1 from the Adenauerplatz stop and line 2 from the district court as good ways to reach the Meeting Center. The city of Bielefeld also includes the center in its overview of digital counseling and consultation hours in Mitte, which shows that the location is visible and easily findable in urban everyday life. A dedicated parking lot is not explicitly highlighted in the publicly accessible information, which is why arriving by public transport is the most obvious and safest option for many guests. For a location that focuses on encounters and participation, this good accessibility is an important quality factor. ([bielefeld.jetzt](https://www.bielefeld.jetzt/node/1418041))
Courses, Digital Consultation Hours, and Everyday Assistance
A central SEO and practical topic around Kreuzstraße is digital assistance. On the city's overview page for counseling offers in the digital everyday life, the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße of the Diakonie for Bielefeld is mentioned twice: once for a smartphone consultation and once for a PC and smartphone meeting. Both offerings are aimed at people who want to become more confident with smartphones, tablets, or computers, and are described as organized every two weeks. Additionally, the city specifies concrete times for the smartphone consultation on Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 AM and Mondays from 3:45 to 4:30 PM. Thus, Kreuzstraße is not only a social meeting point but also a low-threshold learning address for digital everyday questions. ([bielefeld.de](https://www.bielefeld.de/gemeinsam-digital))
Also, aside from digital topics, the house is strongly oriented towards practical support. The program PDFs show offerings such as foot care, yoga for seniors, English courses, French courses, hiking meetings, walks through Bielefeld, watercolor painting, chess friends, and Bielefeld walks. Additionally, there are discussion groups such as healthy living in old age or living well in old age, as well as movement offerings like seated and standing gymnastics. Particularly interesting is that many formats clearly function according to interests rather than rigid target groups. Those who want to stay mentally active, get their bodies and circulation moving, or simply find structure in everyday life can put together a very broad program here. ([diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de](https://www.diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de/fileadmin/content/pdf/BZ_Kreuzstrasse_Programm_April-Mai_2024.pdf))
Café, Breakfast, and Cultural Encounters
A second defining theme is the open meeting formats around the café. In the program PDFs, the open café regularly appears on the schedule, partly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the afternoon. Additionally, there are breakfast formats such as breakfast in between and musical breakfast, which give the house a particularly low-threshold character. This is important for SEO relevance because many people are not only looking for courses but also for a pleasant place for coffee, conversation, and spontaneous participation. The Kreuzstraße appears in the available documents exactly like this: as a place where one can drop by, stay, and make contact. ([diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de](https://www.diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de/fileadmin/content/pdf/BZ_Kreuzstrasse_Programm_April-Mai_2024.pdf))
This profile becomes particularly lively through recurring special formats. Bielefeld.NOW reports, for example, about the traditional house advent in the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße, where crafting circle, café, and an Advent celebration come together. According to the event notice, there are homemade goods, waffles, and punch, as well as musical contributions. Another report describes a musical afternoon in the Mobile Theater as an offering of the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße. Together with the regular breakfasts and open café hours, this creates the image of a house that understands sociability not as an addition but as a core function. For visitors seeking atmosphere and encounters, this is an important added value. ([bielefeld.jetzt](https://www.bielefeld.jetzt/node/1418041))
Grief Café, Leisure Mentors, and Social Support
A particularly sensitive and at the same time important offering is the Grief Café Kreuzstraße. The Grief Network Bielefeld describes it as an open grief café in the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße 19a in Bielefeld-Mitte, which takes place on the first Sunday of every month from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Those in mourning, relatives, and friends are welcome there; no registration is required. For many search queries related to grief café, grief support, or meeting center Bielefeld, this information is central because it shows that the house not only enables leisure but also comfort and conversation. Such offerings make the location particularly valuable for people in difficult life phases. ([trauer-bielefeld.de](https://trauer-bielefeld.de/angebote/trauercafe-kreuzstrasse/?utm_source=openai))
Additionally, there is the area of leisure mentors, which the Diakonie for Bielefeld explicitly mentions on its page about age and disability. The group offering in the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße serves leisure activities and daily structuring and is complemented by individual support in the living environment. This combination is particularly noteworthy because it shows how strongly the center is integrated into social work and supportive tasks. It is not only about programs and events but also about real support in everyday life. Those looking for a meeting center in Bielefeld that connects culture, conversation, structure, and care will find a particularly clear example here. ([diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de](https://www.diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de/alter-behinderung.html))
Why the Meeting Center Kreuzstraße is Important for Bielefeld
The sponsoring organization of the Diakonie emphasizes that its meeting centers at three locations in Bielefeld-Mitte, Gadderbaum, and Stieghorst offer courses, culture, contact, and encounters. The Meeting Center Kreuzstraße thus belongs to a larger social network within the city. This classification is important because it does not make the house appear as an isolated meeting point but as part of a reliable infrastructure for older people and other target groups in need of support. Especially in the urban area, such a place has a significant impact: it creates everyday proximity, reliability, and a contact point that can be used without major hurdles. ([diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de](https://www.diakonie-fuer-bielefeld.de/alter-behinderung.html))
For users seeking a practical image of the location, the profile can be summarized as follows: The center is centrally located, is easily accessible by city rail, offers regular courses and consultation hours, provides social and cultural formats, and consciously opens itself up to different life situations with grief café, leisure mentors, and open cafés. The publicly accessible pages do not mention a fixed capacity, so the house should be understood more as a versatile meeting center than as a classic large event location. However, therein lies its strength: Kreuzstraße is not a place for effect-seeking but a location for genuine participation, exchange, and concrete help in everyday life. Nice café from 14:00 to 17:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with the chance to join different groups for seniors over 55: Weekly meetings for English, French, Games, Chess, Yoga, Grievance Talk, etc. Monthly Musical Brunch every last Tuesday at 9:30, an English Book Club, etc. The rooms are spacious, the coffee is nice, the cakes are delicious, and the staff is friendly and helpful. There's an opportunity to rent the big room for hanging your pictures if you're an artist. The center belongs to the Protestant Church, i.e. the Diakonie für Bielefeld.
