Bielefeld Puppet Plays - Dagmar Selje | Tickets & Program

The Bielefeld Puppet Plays - Dagmar Selje is a traditional puppet theater in the center of Bielefeld, which has developed over decades into a fixed address for families, school classes, theater lovers, and friends. The website describes the venue as a small, lively theater with around 100 seats, an inviting foyer, and a closeness between stage and audience, which is ideal for puppet and figure theater. Since 2016, the theater has been located in the Skala House at Jahnplatz; it was founded in 1948 by Helmut Selje in the bunker Ulmenwall. So, those searching for Bielefeld Puppet Plays, Dagmar Selje, Puppet Theater Bielefeld, or figure theater in the city center will find not only a venue here but also a culturally and historically grown place with a clear signature, personal atmosphere, and a program that appeals to both children and adults alike. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

Current Program and Upcoming Events

The program of the Bielefeld Puppet Plays is clearly focused on diversity and continuity. The website has dedicated sections for children's, group, and adult performances, which are continuously filled with new dates. This creates a program that not only showcases individual premieres but remains lively over months and continually offers new reasons for a visit. On the children's pages, current pieces such as The Story of the Bowl and the Spoon, The Little Water Sprite, Zoo-Home is the Best, or It Knocks at Wanja's Door at Night appear. This selection shows that the theater addresses both classic children's literature and modern narratives and presents them in a form that is understandable and accessible to different age groups. Many of the productions shown are recommended for ages 3, 4, or 6 and often last about 40 to 45 minutes, which is particularly suitable for younger children. This is where an important SEO and user value lies: those searching for a children's program in Bielefeld do not receive a generic event page but a clearly structured repertoire with clear age indications, performance times, and a recognizable artistic line. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

The program includes not only classic puppet plays but also other formats that broaden the content of the house. The website mentions expressive figure theater, comedy, musical performances, and other offerings; thus, the venue is more than just a children's stage. For families, it is particularly valuable that the repertoire is oriented towards the needs of the audience: the pieces are compact, clearly told, and often designed so that even the youngest visitors can easily follow along. Additionally, the website showcases holiday offerings such as puppet-making during the Easter holidays or shadow theater workshops, which extend the theater experience beyond the classic performance visit. Such offerings are particularly relevant for search queries related to upcoming events, children's programs, workshops, or holiday programs, as they create concrete reasons for visits and do not just provide general cultural information. There are also specific dates for groups and adults, including guest performances and evenings with other ensembles. This transforms the search intent for a puppet theater in Bielefeld into a versatile event address that covers both spontaneous family visits and planned group visits and evening dates. Tickets, Prices, and Advance Sales

The ticket page of the Bielefeld Puppet Plays is clearly and practically structured, providing real added value for visitors. For children's performances, the website states regular prices of 10.50 euros for children and 11.50 euros for adults; reduced tickets are priced at 9.50 euros and 10.50 euros, respectively. For groups of 25 or more, a price of 8.00 euros per person applies. Evening performances are listed at a regular price of 19.00 euros and a reduced price of 16.00 euros. Additionally, the theater offers a combo ticket for a theater piece with a short workshop, further expanding the offerings for families and groups. For SEO planning, such price information is particularly valuable as it addresses concrete purchasing intentions: people searching for tickets, prices, or advance sales generally want to know immediately how much the costs are and where they can reserve. This venue answers these questions transparently and without detours. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/tickets.html?utm_source=openai))

When purchasing tickets, the theater relies on a mix of advance sales, online booking, and box office sales. Advance sales are conducted exclusively through the Tourist Information Bielefeld in the Wissenswerkstadt at Wilhelmstraße 3 or online via bielefeld.jetzt. Remaining tickets are available at the box office starting 30 minutes before the performance begins. This is particularly relevant for search queries regarding box office sales, advance sales, or last-minute tickets, as users thereby know exactly how flexible they can plan. For daycare centers and schools, there are specific booking processes: reservations can be made by phone on Mondays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at 0521/179605 or via email at info@bielefelder-puppenspiele.de. In group inquiries, the theater requests that the number of children, the number of adults, a callback number, the name of the institution, and the billing address be provided. The website also points out that responses may occasionally take longer than 24 hours because it is a small theater with limited capacities. This openness builds trust and is also important from an SEO perspective, as it provides real service information instead of mere advertising language. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/tickets.html?utm_source=openai))

Directions, Location, and Parking at Jahnplatz

The Bielefeld Puppet Plays are located very centrally in the city center. The official address is Herforder Straße 5-7, 33602 Bielefeld, and the website locates the theater in the Skala House at Jahnplatz. For visitors, this means primarily short distances within the city, good orientation at a well-known city center point, and a location that combines excellently with a city stroll or a restaurant visit. This information is particularly important for search terms like directions, Herforder Straße, Bielefeld city center, or Jahnplatz, as it precisely describes the location. The website clearly states the house itself and its address, which facilitates planning and quickly confirms to searchers that they are at the right place. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

Regarding parking, the information on the website is deliberately restrained: specific theater parking spaces are not mentioned. For a search engine or a landing page, this is not a disadvantage but an important signal for honest, realistic information. Those arriving by car should therefore consider the city center location and check the usual parking options around Jahnplatz; those coming by public transport benefit from the central location in the city center. From an SEO perspective, this mix is interesting: the location is clearly city-central, the focus is on the theater experience itself, and the journey is a practical but not complicated part of the visit. Since the website does not invent unnecessary details about parking or access, a credible image is created: not a large event center with huge parking areas, but an inner-city, personal theater with short distances and a clear address that is easy to find. For visitors, this is often even an advantage, as the journey to Bielefeld city can be combined with a visit to the cultural quarter. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

Hall, Seats, and Atmosphere

A key feature of the Bielefeld Puppet Plays is the spatial closeness between stage and audience. The website describes the theater hall as cozy and mentions around 100 seats. Together with the inviting foyer, this creates an atmosphere that consciously does not seem large, distant, or anonymous, but rather close, manageable, and personal. This is a significant advantage for puppet theater, as many figures and narrative forms thrive on the fact that children can experience every movement, every voice, and every small gesture. The proximity to the stage supports attention and makes the theater visit more accessible for young viewers. Adults also benefit from this, as the intimate hall situation creates a direct, almost chamber-like effect. Those searching for seating plans, seats, or capacity receive a clear answer here: it is a small house with around 100 seats, not a multipurpose hall or a large stage. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

The theater consciously utilizes this size. The website emphasizes that children and adults can experience a diverse cultural program here, including figure theater, comedy, and musical performances. The combination of a small venue and a broad repertoire is an important unique selling point, as it shapes the character of the location: not spectacular in terms of mass, but high-quality in terms of closeness, craftsmanship, and direct impact. For families, this is particularly pleasant, as the evening or afternoon is not characterized by long distances, confusing visitor flows, or a complicated hall layout. Instead, the actual experience is at the center: a well-visible, well-audible, and emotionally close theater moment. When reviews mention a special atmosphere, loving details, or the immediate view of the stage, it perfectly matches the image that the website itself conveys. The theater is small enough for personal experiences and simultaneously professional enough to establish a stable cultural offering in Bielefeld over many years. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

History and Special Signature

The history of the Bielefeld Puppet Plays is a central element of the location and at the same time a strong SEO topic, as it gives the stage a real cultural core. According to the website, the theater was founded in 1948 by Helmut Selje in the bunker Ulmenwall. After that, there were three relocations within Bielefeld before the ensemble found a new home in 2016 in the Skala House at Jahnplatz. These stages show that it is not a short-term event address but a grown theater tradition with local roots. For search queries about history, background, or special features, this development is relevant because it transforms the location from a simple venue into a piece of Bielefeld's cultural history. The website also highlights that the house has been working in the special premises of the Skala House for several years and has established a stable, lively stage there. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

The special signature of the house is also reflected in the wording of the website and in the program content. Dagmar Selje and the team emphasize the closeness to the audience, the diversity of the repertoire, and the mix of figure theater, comedy, and musical contributions. Additionally, there are collaborations, guest performances, and formats that go beyond the classic puppet play. This creates a house that not only appears nostalgic but also moves in the here and now. This is particularly valuable for SEO, as many users are not only searching for a place but for an experience with character. Exactly this character is delivered by the location: a traditional name, a clear family orientation, a central city location, and a style that focuses on loving details, craftsmanship, and human closeness. The communication itself also remains deliberately personal and inviting, which strengthens the recognition value. So, those searching for a cultural place with history and present will find in the Bielefeld Puppet Plays a location that convincingly connects both. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/?utm_source=openai))

For Families, Daycare Centers, and Schools

An important part of the offering is aimed at families, daycare centers, and schools. The website explicitly points out that there are morning performances for kindergartens and schools, and that there are dedicated dates available for this. When reserving, groups should directly specify the number of children, the number of adults, a callback number, the name of the institution, and the billing address. This is practical, clear, and tailored to the educational everyday life. Especially for institutions planning an outing, this structure is valuable as it reduces organizational effort and makes the booking process transparent. Communication via phone and email is also kept simple and fits well with a small theater offering personal service. The website also openly states that responses may occasionally take a bit longer and asks for understanding. This honesty is a good sign of a real, not artificially polished theater operation. ([bielefelder-puppenspiele.de](https://www.bielefelder-puppenspiele.de/termine_gruppen.html?utm_source=openai))

Especially family-friendly are also the workshop and holiday offerings. For example, the puppet-making during the Easter holidays is described on the homepage: children from 4 years can craft a bag puppet in about 90 minutes with simple materials; participation is limited, and registration is required. Additionally, there are productions specifically tailored to younger children, often lasting around 40 minutes, so that even the little ones can hold out well. Some pieces work with a single performer in a small space and are described on the website as multifaceted, lively, and told with a wink. This shows that the location not only sells performances but also creates experiences that are tailored to the age and attention span of the audience. For parents, grandparents, educators, and teachers, this is a strong argument, as theater is not understood here as a mandatory program but as an easily accessible cultural experience. Those searching for children's programs, family theater, workshops, or a suitable location for the first theater visit will find a very coherent overall picture at the Bielefeld Puppet Plays. Dagmar Zell is a cozy puppet theater in the center of Bielefeld. The theater is housed in the Skala building, a former cinema that retains the nostalgic atmosphere of the past. The auditorium offers close proximity to the stage, creating a special atmosphere for visitors of all ages. The theater's repertoire includes a variety of shows for children. The performances last approximately 40 minutes, making them suitable for even the youngest audiences. We visited this small chamber puppet theater in the city center and were very impressed. It's a perfect place for children to enjoy great performances. We recommend it for a family vacation.

A wonderful experience for young children (and adults). The beautiful stage design and the performance style were different than I had expected. It wasn't a conventional puppet show with a cutout and the puppeteers invisible; instead, Dagmar Selje was a visible part of the performance. It was marvelous. She acted and spoke in a way that was perfectly suited to children and very sensitive. My grandchildren were fascinated and delighted. The whole atmosphere was very harmonious. This was our first, but certainly not our last, visit to this puppet theater.

Highly recommended. A small but delightful puppet theater. Uncomplicated and very friendly staff. The shows are a perfect length, even for the youngest children. The love is in the details. The kids love it.

Our 3-year-old grandchild really enjoyed the play "Three Friends." It's suitable for toddlers, and there were no scenes that could frighten our grandchild. It's good to know the characters beforehand. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many seats remained empty, so we had a good view of the stage. The auditorium is downstairs, so it's not wheelchair accessible.

The tradition continues. I myself went to the puppet theater there as a small child. It's a wonderful childhood memory that I hold dear. Now I can give my child the same opportunity. It's fantastic that Bielefeld has such a wonderful cultural scene. Keep it up!
