Shout for Joy to the Lord, All the Earth: Bielefeld Concert Choir Celebrates 20 Years
The Bielefeld Concert Choir invites you to a festive anniversary concert at the Johanniskirche on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Together with the Mindener Jokubus Choir, Petrichor, and the OWL Chamber Philharmonic Minden, the choir presents a musical evening filled with rich vocal sounds and a special art action: Live painting accompanies the concert.
Choral Harmony Meets Orchestral Colors
Under the joint direction of Naoko Grünberg-Sakai and Sebastian Grünberg, the concert combines multi-choral grandeur with the precision of a symphonic ensemble. The acoustics of the Johanniskirche give the voices space and depth, while the OWL Chamber Philharmonic Minden provides instrumental transparency and festive orchestral colors.
Mendelssohn and Rheinberger in Focus
The program features works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger. Mendelssohn's sacred compositions Shout for Joy to the Lord, All the Earth, Whoever Lets God Rule, and Grant Us Peace Graciously meet Rheinberger's Mass in C major op. 169. The program spans a bridge between romantic choral music, liturgical sound language, and expressive concert dramaturgy.
Live Painting Makes Music Visible
A live painting action adds a visual layer to the concert experience. While the choir, orchestra, and conducting fill the space with sound, a painting is created in parallel as an immediate response to the music. Thus, visitors experience not only the dynamics of the stage performance but also the creative process in the moment of its creation.
Festive Evening in the Johanniskirche
The anniversary concert begins at 6:00 PM and is expected to last about two hours. Admission costs 16 euros, reduced tickets are 12 euros. Children and adolescents up to and including 14 years can attend the concert free of charge.
Conclusion
The anniversary concert of the Bielefeld Concert Choir combines sacred choral music, symphonic accompaniment, and live painting into an extraordinary concert experience. Those who want to experience the audience's atmosphere, the full choral sound, and the immediate connection between music and image live will find a festive evening with a special occasion in the Johanniskirche.
