Experience Beethoven's Art of Variation live in Bielefeld

On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Haus Wellensiek transforms into a focused sound space for great piano music. The concert evening of the series Kammermusik Haus Wellensiek starts at 18:00 and focuses on Ludwig van Beethoven's monumental Diabelli Variations op. 120.

A Waltz Theme Becomes a Musical Cosmos

Pianist Florian Hölscher guides us through a work that develops a world full of contrasts from an initially simple waltz theme. Beethoven combines grotesque humor, rhythmic sharpness, lyrical calm, and sublime musical architecture into a late work of extraordinary density. Each variation changes the perspective on the original material and reveals new colors, movements, and characters.

Florian Hölscher: Piano Art with Vision

Florian Hölscher studied with Robert Levin, Michel Béroff, and Pierre-Laurent Aimard in Freiburg, Paris, and Cologne. He also received significant inspiration from conductor and composer Peter Eötvös. As a soloist, Hölscher has collaborated with Kent Nagano, David Zinman, François-Xavier Roth, and Sylvain Cambreling, as well as with renowned orchestras like the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.

His artistic work ranges from classical piano literature to contemporary music. As a founding member of the Ensemble Ascolta, he regularly dedicates himself to new compositions and has built up an extensive repertoire of over 300 works with the ensemble. From 2008 to 2018, he taught piano and chamber music at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts; since the winter semester of 2018, he has been a professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main.

Mozart and Webern Complete the Program

The concert evening is not limited to Beethoven. Additionally, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's variations on A Woman is the Most Wonderful Thing and Anton Webern's late variations op. 27 will be performed. This brings together different musical epochs and ways of thinking: Mozart's classical clarity meets Weber's strict twelve-tone technique, while Beethoven's art of variation serves as the central focus of the program.

Intense Live Atmosphere at Haus Wellensiek

Haus Wellensiek provides the perfect setting for an immediate concert experience. In the concentrated atmosphere of chamber music, closeness develops between the pianist, the instrument, and the audience. Subtle playing nuances, precise synchronization, and the dynamic development of the variations come to the fore. Thus, a classic piano evening becomes a musical journey through wit, tension, reflection, and great emotional arcs.

Conclusion: A Piano Evening for Curious Ears

Visitors can expect a demanding chamber concert featuring Beethoven, Mozart, and Webern on November 8, 2026, crafted by an internationally experienced pianist. Anyone who wants to experience the art of variation, classical piano music, and lively stage performance up close should not miss this evening at Haus Wellensiek.
