Inner Views: Guitar Music Between Salon and Jazz Club

Stefan Hiller invites you on November 7, 2026, to an evening concert at the Movement Theater Bielefeld, which makes the classical guitar an intimate, versatile instrument. The program combines the delicate sound language of classical-romantic guitar music with musical perspectives from jazz, milonga, and pop.

An Artistic Experience with Six Strings

The guitar is one of the most personal instruments in music history. Its tonal colors range from warm shimmering treble tones to velvety, resonant basses. In the concentrated exhibition atmosphere of a concert hall, an immediate work observation occurs: Every nuance, every rhythmic shifting, and every breath of the interpretation remains audible.

By Fernando Sor and Francisco Tárrega

In the first part, Stefan Hiller dedicates himself to works from the classical-romantic period, including pieces by Fernando Sor and Francisco Tárrega. This music combines formal clarity with lyrical sensitivity. Tárrega's compositions represent a guitar tradition where melodic elegance, singable lines, and differentiated articulation merge into an aesthetic experience of particular closeness.

Jazz, Milonga, and Pop in Dialogue

The second half of the concert opens the musical horizon. Compositions by Astor Piazzolla, Bud Powell, Ralph Towner, the Beatles, Cole Porter, and Keith Jarrett lead from classical concert music into the world of jazz, milonga, and pop clubs. Different art forms come into a thrilling dialogue: impressionistic sound colors, syncopated rhythms, dance-like energy, and melodic familiarity encounter each other on the fretboard.

Stefan Hiller: Musician by Passion

Stefan Hiller was born in 1968 in Bremen and began playing guitar at the age of ten. After experiencing chamber music and successes in 'Youth Makes Music,' he studied classical guitar at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover from 1995 to 1997 under Professor Frank Bungarten. His artistic milestones include CD releases, radio recordings, chamber music projects, and an engagement at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven in Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' opera The Lighthouse.

His musical work is characterized by great stylistic openness. In addition to classical guitar literature, he engages with contemporary transitions between concert hall, jazz club, and popular music. A review in the Rietberger Stadtanzeiger praised the special musical moments of his virtuosic yet humble playing style.

Conclusion: An Evening for Curious Ears

Inner Views promises a concentrated artistic experience between historical guitar literature and modern musical multilingualism. Visitors will experience the classical guitar as a sensitive solo instrument, whose sound world ranges from the romantic salon to the jazz club. Those wishing to combine aesthetic experience, cultural education, and immediate concert atmosphere should experience this evening live at the Movement Theater.
