Festive choral music for the 20th anniversary of the Bielefeld concert choir
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, the Bielefeld concert choir celebrates its 20th anniversary with the anniversary concert Rejoice in the Lord, all the world in the Johanniskirche Bielefeld. From 6:00 p.m., powerful choral voices, spiritual romanticism, and the full sound of the OWL Chamber Philharmonic Minden come together.
Mendelssohn's spiritual sound world
The musical opening features three works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Rejoice in the Lord, all the world, Who only lets the dear God rule, and Grant us peace graciously. Mendelssohn's precise choral settings combine transparent voice leading with festive brilliance. In the acoustics of Johanniskirche, the orchestration unfolds a special depth, while the conducting shapes the individual voice groups into a cohesive sound body.
Rheinberger's mass as the musical highlight
Next is a significant work of late Romantic church music with Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger's Mass in C major op. 169. The composition combines liturgical clarity with colorful harmonics and finely tuned dynamics. The Bielefeld concert choir, Ev. Petrichor Minden, Ev. Jakobuschor Minden, and the OWL Chamber Philharmonic Minden jointly create an evening of intimate devotion and great symphonic richness.
Live painting enhances the concert experience
A special visual layer is created through a supporting art action with live painting. While the music plays, a picture develops directly from the audience's mood and the musical impulses. Thus, stage performance, choral sound, and fine arts meet in an extraordinary anniversary format.
Shared leadership and strong voices
The musical direction is taken by Naoko Grünberg-Sakai and Sebastian Grünberg. The concert stands for the close collaboration of the participating choirs and the orchestra from East Westphalia. The combination of a large choral music ensemble, historically informed knowledge of the works, and a lively live atmosphere makes the evening a special date for friends of classical music and spiritual concert culture.
Conclusion: A festive evening for the senses
The anniversary concert promises an impressive evening of romantic choral music, orchestral splendor, and a visual surprise. Those who want to experience Mendelssohn and Rheinberger in an atmospheric church will find the Johanniskirche to be the suitable space for an intense concert experience. Secure your ticket and celebrate 20 years of the Bielefeld concert choir live.
