Board Games: Art meets closed custody
The exhibition Board Games brings artistic works from the Bielefeld-Brackwede Correctional Facility into the public space on October 8, 2026, at the Open Atelier 63 in Bielefeld. The opening is invited by the association Open Studios Bielefeld e. V. starting at 4 PM at Melanchthonstraße 63.
When game materials take on new meaning
From elements of well-known board games like Monopoly and Ludo, objects with an unusual, personal visual language have emerged. The familiar game pieces, cards, and game components appear in a new context and open up a sensitive access to the thoughts and feelings of people currently in custody.
Art as expression and meeting
In several joint sessions, the works were developed with inmates. The exhibition thus connects artistic practice, social discourse, and the question of how creative work can create spaces for expression. The event experience relies less on classic entertainment and more on focused contemplation, reflection, and interaction.
Opening at Open Atelier 63
The opening takes place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 4 to 6 PM. Visitors will experience an exhibition where familiar game worlds meet themes of closed custody. The event planning of the Open Atelier Bielefeld e. V. creates a special framework for contemporary art and social exchange.
Important note on accessibility
The entrance to the event is not barrier-free. The exhibition can be seen at Open Atelier 63, Melanchthonstraße 63, in Bielefeld.
Conclusion
Board Games shows how expressive art can emerge from familiar game materials. Those who want to experience socially relevant topics from an unfamiliar perspective will find a thoughtful and unique exhibition experience in Bielefeld at this opening.
