Between Before and After: An Artistic Reflection on Life
The exhibition needle in the brain//part2//that's me at the Baumheide Recreation Center combines installation, performance, video, and sound in an intense examination of illness, identity, and change. At its core is the question of what remains of the familiar self after a life-threatening brain hemorrhage when little seems visible externally but everything has changed internally.
A Personal Cut as the Starting Point of the Staging
The artistic work takes a brain hemorrhage in November 2018 and the necessary placement of a shunt a few months later as a biographical starting point. From the medical intervention, a multifaceted stage and exhibition dramaturgy develops around fear, crisis, coping, and the fragile perception of one's own body.
Installation, Video, Movement, and Sound
Raphaela Kula designs the installation and performance. Yuri Birte Anderson from Zurich is involved with video and Zoom, Ilona Pahszty contributes a slow-motion performance, while Ria Reed from Bielefeld is responsible for the acoustic layer. This creates an atmospheric experiential space where image, movement, and sound do not illustrate but make memories and inner states physically tangible.
A Stage Experience Between Exhibition and Performance
The staging consciously moves between visual art and theater. The stage design becomes a space for thought, the slowed movement a visible trace of inner processes, the sound the resonance of the unspeakable. Visitors encounter an art form that does not aim for quick answers but opens perception and transforms the audience's reaction into a quiet dialogue with the work.

The exhibition is open on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
