Era 6 comes alive on the model railway
On Sunday, November 15, 2026, the Bielefeld Model Railway Club e.V. opens its club house on Heeper Straße for a public open day. From 11 AM to 6 PM, visitors can experience modern railways in miniature format, detailed landscapes, and the fascinating operation of several digitally controlled layouts.
Modern Railways in Multiple Gauges
At the center is Era 6, the railways of the present day. Modern multiple units, freight transport by private railway companies, and the diverse world of today's tracks shape the exhibition theme. Layouts in the gauges N, H0, and 0 as well as a modular layout will be displayed.
Workshop Observation in Miniature Scale
The H0 layout impresses with around 350 meters of track, while the N layout covers about 250 meters of track. A day-night control changes the exhibition atmosphere, allowing stations, landscapes, and buildings to appear anew in alternating light and darkness. A roundhouse, moving cars in the Faller Car System, and shunting operations on the large gauge 0 enhance the artistic experience with technical precision and narrative details.
Fascination of Model Building for Families and Railway Enthusiasts
Children discover trains rolling through stations, tunnels, and landscapes, while the lighting in simulated night operation creates a special spatial effect. Adults and experienced model railroaders gain insights into digital layout construction, control technology, and the creation of detailed miniature worlds. The club members answer questions and share their many years of experience in layout construction.
A Club with Bielefeld History
The Bielefeld Model Railway Club e.V. has been active since 1972. The open day combines technical expertise, craftsmanship, and cultural education. Each layout tells a story of mobility, architecture, landscape, and the transformation of railways in the 21st century in the smallest space.
