When the Darkness Reaches Its Deepest Point
On Friday, October 30, 2026, the exhibition Where The Night Cannot Go Deeper opens at the Artists Unlimited Gallery Bielefeld. Four artistic positions dedicate themselves to a mysterious transition moment: that hour between three and five in the morning when the night appears quieter, darker, and more existential than at any other time.
The Hour of the Wolf as a Threshold Space
In various cultural traditions, the deepest night is considered a liminal time. Fears and worries emerge, the boundary between life and death seems permeable, and the connection to another world appears closer. The wolf accompanies this idea as a mythical being of transition, moving freely through the darkness and able to switch between human and animal forms.
Four Artistic Voices, a Dark Resonance Space
Barbara Collé from Amsterdam, Christine Gensheimer from Bielefeld, Uta Neumann from Berlin, and Lars Rosenbohm from Bielefeld engage associatively with the motifs of the deepest darkness. Photographs, texts, drawings, paintings, and objects enter into a playful-experimental dialogue. The exhibition unfolds not as a linear narrative but as an open network of images, thoughts, and perceptions.
Between Art, Literature, Mythology, and Science
The artistic dramaturgy navigates between sensual experience and intellectual research. Barbara Collé invites under the title Show me the deepest darkness, show me the blackest black to explore associations of darkness in art, literature, mythology, and science. The exhibition environment thus becomes a quiet space for thought, where light, materiality, and imagination correspond with each other.
Opening and Further Exhibition Days
The opening begins on Friday, October 30, at 7 PM and lasts until 10 PM. On Saturday, October 31, the exhibition is open from 2 PM to 7 PM. A lecture on the exhibition takes place on Saturday at 5:15 PM and is free of charge. On Sunday, November 1, the artists invite you to visit from 2 PM to 5 PM with coffee and cake.
Conclusion: A Stage Experience Without a Stage
Where The Night Cannot Go Deeper transforms the gallery into an atmospheric resonance space between dream, myth, and the present. Visitors can expect an exhibition that wants to be not only observed but also physically and mentally experienced. Those who appreciate contemporary art, photography, drawing, painting, and poetic boundary-crossing will experience an evening full of darkness, tension, and inner movement in Bielefeld.
