Celebrating Free Spaces: A Street Festival for Everyone in Bielefeld

On Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Freiraum Rochdale in Bielefeld will transform into an open meeting place for music, encounters, and collective engagement. Under the motto Celebrating Free Spaces, the initiative Housing Instead of Weapons invites people of all ages to a street festival from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM.

Festival Atmosphere at the Rochdale Site

A lively festival atmosphere will be created at the Rochdale Barracks with live music, dancing, and DJs. In between historical barrack areas, open meeting places, and the feeling of an urban street festival, shared experiences take center stage. The program combines culture, neighborhood, and political participation into a special multi-day experience of the Bielefeld free space scene – even though the event itself takes place over one afternoon.

Music, Participation Activities, and Encounters

The lineup focuses on diverse contributions rather than a single main act: live music, dance, and DJ sets create varied sound experiences. The program is complemented by a mobile play area, a face painting station for children, and information booths. This results in an inclusive street festival that brings together families, culture enthusiasts, neighbors, and engaged individuals.

Free Space as a Social Concern

The festival is organized by the initiative Housing Instead of Weapons. It advocates for the ongoing use of the former barracks site as a free space for encounters, culture, sports, and housing. The festival thus sees itself not only as a cultural event but also as a visible sign for solidarity in urban development and vibrant civil society spaces in Bielefeld.

Celebrate, Share, and Co-Create Together

Visitors can look forward to cakes and snacks from the community. The open design makes the afternoon a meeting point where people can engage in conversation, experience music, and share their own ideas. According to the event information, the festival will take place even in bad weather.

Conclusion: Experience Culture and Community Live

Celebrating Free Spaces connects festival atmosphere, neighborhood, and cultural diversity at a historically significant location. Those who want to experience the community feeling of an open street festival and get to know the Freiraum Rochdale will find a special occasion to come together on October 31, 2026.
