COCO - A Colorful Día de los Muertos Afternoon in Bielefeld
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Lichtwerk in Ravensberger Park will transform into a special meeting place for families, film fans, and anyone who wants to experience Día de los Muertos. Instead of Halloween, COCO - More Alive Than Life focuses on the Mexican remembrance of deceased people.
Film Classic and Mexican Memory Culture
At 2 p.m., the screening of the animated film Coco - More Alive Than Life will begin. The award-winning Disney-Pixar film tells the story of the music-loving Miguel and connects colorful animations with an emotional story about family, memory, and the power of music. The screening is approved for all ages.
Creating an Ofrenda Together
After the film, the experience continues: Together with the association Kórima, a traditional altar, known as an ofrenda, will be created. Visitors are encouraged to bring photos of deceased relatives, favorite sweets, or other personal memorabilia to place on the altar. This creates a personal, respectful, and colorful encounter with the tradition of Día de los Muertos.
Creative Program for Young and Older Guests
The creative side will also not be neglected. Pip Cozens and Annabella Mayntz from ART at WORK e.V. will bring skull masks that can be painted in a variety of colors and taken home afterward. Children, parents, and grandparents are expressly invited to create together and enjoy the afternoon as an intergenerational cultural experience.
A Special Cultural Event at Lichtwerk
The Lichtwerk in Ravensberger Park provides the perfect ambiance with its program cinema atmosphere for this extraordinary afternoon. The event combines film, family programming, workshop elements, and cultural education. The event is organized in cooperation with Lichtwerk Bielefeld, Kórima e.V., ART at WORK e.V., and the funeral homes Noller+Ziebell.
Conclusion: Experience Film, Memory, and Community Live
