Can happiness be learned? A children's university full of wonder and interactive ideas
What makes people happy? At the GENIAL Children's University at the University of Bielefeld, children discover in an understandable and playful way how positive psychology researches happiness. The family experience combines child-friendly knowledge, quality time together, and practical learning experiences.
Science that sparks curiosity
Dr. Angelika Augustine takes children into health sciences and shows how researchers study positive emotions. Young visitors learn why doing good for others can bring happiness, how gratitude can enhance life satisfaction, and why mastering challenges can evoke good feelings.
Participate, experiment, and laugh together
The children's university thrives on active participation. Small experiments, group exercises, and a team task with balloons bring movement into the lecture hall. A large cube helps to explore the theme of happiness playfully. This creates an age-appropriate learning experience filled with children's laughter, curiosity, and many suggestions for family life.
Educationally valuable and child-friendly
The program is aimed at children aged 10 to 13 years. The content is presented understandably and promotes engagement with feelings, gratitude, helpfulness, and personal challenges. The event takes place in a lecture hall at the University of Bielefeld and conveys science in a safe, supervised event environment. Please bring paper and a pencil.
A special campus day for families
The children's university is part of the GENIAL campus day on October 9, 2026. Families experience hands-on science and get an exciting insight into the work of the University of Bielefeld, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, and other knowledge actors.
Conclusion: Explore happiness and try it out directly
The GENIAL Children's University invites children to ask questions, experiment together, and take home practical ideas for more positive emotions. Anyone wanting to experience science in a lively, family-friendly way with a large portion of learning fun should not miss this special family experience at the University of Bielefeld.
