We Explore the Brain: Exciting Learning Fun for Kids in Bielefeld
How well does our short-term memory work? Can children concentrate despite distractions? And where do feelings actually reside in the body? In this interactive family experience, children aged 8 to 12 discover the fascinating world of the brain through experiments, hands-on stations, and their own research passport.
Research Journey with Experiments
At four interactive stations, the young researchers examine how the brain controls attention, memory, and emotions. They collect their own data, test their concentration, and try out strategies to better remember information. This makes scientific connections accessible, age-appropriate, and immediately experiential for children.
Astonishment, Experimentation, and Understanding Connections
Short texts, practical tasks, and a knowledge quiz combine learning fun with shared time. For each completed hands-on station, there is a stamp in the research passport. This creates a personalized learning experience step by step, igniting curiosity and showing children how real researchers work.
Every Brain Works Differently
An important impulse of the workshop: Every brain works in its own way – and therein lies a strength. Children learn to notice differences attentively and to better understand their own development. The combination of psychology, experiments, and playful knowledge transfer supports concentration, self-reflection, and independent thinking.
Well Prepared for the Family Experience
This workshop is aimed at children aged 8 to 12 years. Since short texts will be read and the research passport filled out, basic reading skills are helpful. Children under 10 years must participate accompanied by an adult; a ticket is also required for the accompanying person. The event was developed by the University of Bielefeld, Faculty of Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology and Psychotherapy unit.
Conclusion: Science, Children's Laughter, and Real Discoveries
This family experience combines curiosity, movement in thinking, and child-friendly science. Visitors can expect a varied afternoon where children can research, marvel, and expand their knowledge of attention, memory, and emotions. Those who want to not only be explained science but also experience it themselves will find an inspiring hands-on event at the Knowledge Workshop Bielefeld.
