How does the brain work? Science meets creativity in Bielefeld
What does a healthy brain look like – and what changes in Alzheimer, Parkinson, or a stroke? The workshop “How does the brain work?” invites participants on October 22, 2026, in the Wissenswerkstadt Bielefeld to explore brain diseases in an understandable, interactive, and creative way.
Neuroanatomy to see and understand
After a brief introductory lecture, participants will explore six stations at their own pace. At two neuroanatomy stations, brain structures will be made visible on screen in 3D. Anatomical models also make complex correlations tangible and provide direct access to the fundamentals of brain research.
Diagnosis, MRI quiz, and new perspectives
Image material, videos, and neuropsychological tests introduce different diseases at two diagnosis stations. In the MRI quiz, visitors match real images to the corresponding diseases. This way, the event experience combines scientific information with active participation.
When science becomes creative
After the research work, the artistic part follows. At two art stations, participants will creatively reinterpret their insights using pens or various materials. A small exhibition of the works created and the joint evaluation of the MRI quiz will conclude the event. The special event atmosphere arises from the alternation between research, exchange, and creative design.
Expert knowledge without prior knowledge
The program was developed by the University of Bielefeld, Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science, AG Affective Neuroscience. The focus is on how much people can determine their neurological and mental health themselves and what influence their own life story has. No prior knowledge is required; all materials will be provided.
Conclusion: Brain research as a personal experience
The workshop connects understandable health education, modern diagnostics, neuroanatomy, and art into a varied event experience. Those who want to better understand brain diseases and creatively engage with scientific content will experience an informative evening with interactive stations and inspiring perspectives in the Wissenswerkstadt Bielefeld. Registration is required.
