Experience Philosophy Live: WDR 5 Guests at the Knowledge Workshop Bielefeld
On Friday, November 13, 2026, the Knowledge Workshop Bielefeld will transform into a studio for a special live recording: WDR 5 brings The Philosophical Radio to the stage as part of GENIALE 2026. Moderator Jürgen Wiebicke discusses the big questions around health, illness, and our societal well-being with philosopher Dr. Thomas Arnold and the audience.
When Health Becomes a Philosophical Question
When are we healthy and when are we sick? Is it enough when complaints are absent? And who actually decides how we assess ourselves and others? These questions provide the framework for an evening that combines scientific insights, personal experiences, and philosophical reflection.
Dr. Thomas Arnold from Heidelberg University explores how people experience themselves and the world. His perspective brings philosophical thoughts from the lecture hall right into the city, making them accessible to a broad audience. His current book on narcissism, The Insatiable Self, addresses questions of identity, self-image, and societal coexistence.
Audience Not Just in the Spectator Area
The event experience thrives on exchange. Guests do not merely follow a discussion round but can actively participate and engage in discussion. This atmosphere of audience involvement shapes the format: A thesis is presented, thoughts collide, and individual questions lead to collective contemplation.
The recording will later be broadcast on WDR 5 and released as a podcast. With a bit of luck, a visit to the Knowledge Workshop may even create a moment on the radio.
GENIALE 2026: Knowledge for Thought
The event is part of GENIALE 2026 under the motto How Are We?. The festival is dedicated to physical and mental health in October and November. Workshops, exhibitions, lectures, shows, and participatory offerings connect science with entertainment and invite participants to raise their own questions.
Important for event planning: Admission is free, entry begins at 6:30 PM, and seating is limited. Prior registration is recommended. The event management of the Knowledge Workshop creates a focused environment for a public radio production with a conversational atmosphere and opportunities for participation.
