In the Community Atelier in Bielefeld-Mitte, handmade textile gifts for a good cause will be created on October 25, 2026. Under the guidance of course instructor Julia Schürmann, participants will learn various sewing techniques and create their own unique pieces for the Community Bazaar.
Handmade gifts with a personal touch
Prepared patterns for shoulder bags, coin purses, pencil and cosmetic bags, and various pillow covers will be available. Pin cushions, heat cushions, and yoga cushions are also part of the program. This way, practical favorite pieces are created that gain their individual character through personal ideas and careful craftsmanship.
Textile diversity in the Community Atelier
Diverse fabrics are available for donation in the atelier. The sewing process focuses on different processing techniques step by step: inserting zippers, making buttonholes, turning pieces right-side out, and finishing edges. The offering connects textile creativity, sustainable material usage, and collaborative work.
For beginners and advanced participants
Sewing beginners and advanced participants are welcome. Basic knowledge of handling a sewing machine is required. The small group with a maximum of eight participants creates a personal market atmosphere and allows for individual support throughout the workshop.
Together for the Community Bazaar
The workshop is a project of Afrika Wakati e. V. Those sewing pieces for the Community Bazaar can participate for free. For other self-made works, a solidarity course fee of 8 to 20 euros applies. The handmade products of the bazaar support the maintenance of the open Community Atelier and promote local encounters, craftsmanship, and sustainable textile use.
