Cooking, sharing, and building new bridges together

When shared meals bring people together, a kitchen becomes a place of encounter. The event “Beyond the Plate – Cooking, Sharing, and Building Bridges Together” invites you to the IBZ Friedenshaus in Bielefeld on November 11, 2026. The focus will be on solidarity cooking, food rescue, and the exchange between people from different backgrounds.

Solidarity begins at the stove

To kick off the event, Sophie Bormann from KüfA and foodsharing will give an impulse about the history and social significance of solidarity kitchens. The roots of the so-called Volxküchen date back to the squatter movement of the 1980s. Self-organization, community, and a conscious approach to food continue to shape this idea today.

From impulse to cooking together

From 5:30 PM, the event becomes practical: Together we will prepare vegetarian and vegan dishes. While chopping, cooking, and exchanging ideas, an open event atmosphere will arise in which encounters grow naturally. The event experience is aimed at everyone who wants to connect communal engagement, sustainable nutrition, and lived diversity.

Eating together, engaging in conversation

At 7:30 PM, the joint meal will take place. The audience's mood thrives on personal exchange, new ideas, and the joy of co-creation. Those who wish can bring a container to take leftover food home, furthering the idea of food rescue.

A cooperation project with social impact

The event is part of the project “Building Bridges – Creative and Sustainable.” Involved are the educational center Einschlingen, the IBZ Friedenshaus e.V., and the Kunsthalle Bielefeld. In cooperation with foodsharing Bielefeld e.V., the event management connects political education, sustainable event planning, and practical encounters.

The IBZ Friedenshaus is an open meeting place for people from around the world and provides an appropriate setting for reaching these target groups. The organization focuses on shared experiences instead of distance: food is shared, knowledge is passed on, and contacts are made beyond familiar social groups.

Conclusion: An evening for enjoyment, exchange, and solidarity

Visitors can expect a free, interactive evening with an impulse, a joint cooking action, and eating in a solidarity atmosphere. Anyone wanting to experience Bielefeld from its connecting side will find space for conversations, engagement, and new encounters here. Prior registration is required for participation.
