Patchwork & Quilting in Bielefeld: Fabrics become personal stories

At the Community Atelier in Bielefeld-Mitte, a personal work will be created from fabric pieces on November 1, 2026. The workshop teaches the versatile patchwork technique and then introduces the art of quilting. Under the guidance of Christine von der Marwitz, beginners with basic sewing skills as well as advanced participants will work step by step on their own project.

Creative textile work with a personal touch

The workshop combines focused design with an open, communal event atmosphere. Colors, patterns, and materials come together to form an individual design, while an inspiring audience mood develops in the studio. Anyone who owns a beloved cotton textile can integrate it into their quilt, giving the piece a personal story.

From the basics of patchwork to quilting technique

On two Sundays, November 1 and 8, 2026, the event will guide participants through the essential work steps: First, patchwork basics will be taught and the beginning of one’s own piece will be prepared. Then, the work will be completed using a special quilting technique. Materials and sewing machines are included in the course fee. A personal rotary cutter may be brought along if available.

Open target audience approach and sustainable ideas

The offer is aimed at sewing beginners and advanced participants. Basic experience with a sewing machine is required. The Community Atelier of Afrika Wakati e.V. stands for encounter, collaborative learning, and a conscious approach to textiles. Upcycling and the reuse of existing fabrics give the event experience a sustainable perspective.

Organization and registration

The event planning allows for a maximum of eight participants. The solidarity course fee ranges between 15 and 25 euros. A binding registration can be made via email, through WhatsApp or Signal, by Instagram direct message, or directly in the atelier. The workshop starts at 11:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM.
