Experience Traditional Weaving Craft in Bielefeld
In the practical seminar Potato Basket / Wickerwork of the Biological Station Gütersloh/Bielefeld, the creative work with natural materials was the focus. Under the expert guidance of basket weaver Petra Franke, a semi-spherical basket was to be created from flexible willow rods, which can be used versatilely as a potato basket, shopping, wool, or planting basket.
With Willow Rods to Your Own Basket
Weaving combines craftsmanship precision with a calm, concentrated event atmosphere. Step by step, a stable braid with a characteristic shape emerges from individual willow rods. The event experience is aimed at people who want to learn about traditional crafts and take home a self-made unique piece.
Hands-On Seminar with Professional Guidance
The event planning included a full-day workshop from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The program included practical weaving techniques, the construction of the basket, and individual implementation under the guidance of an experienced basket weaver. For participation, a sharp pocketknife, pruning shears, working clothes, and personal refreshments were required.
Important Note on the Event Date
According to current information from the Biological Station Gütersloh/Bielefeld, the event on October 31, 2026, unfortunately, is canceled. The original event information indicated a participation fee of 40 euros plus about 20 euros for materials and registration by October 13, 2026.
Conclusion
The practical seminar promised an authentic insight into traditional basket weaving and a sustainable creative experience with regional relevance. Anyone interested in handicrafts, natural materials, and historical weaving techniques should keep an eye on the offerings of the Biological Station.
