About Care: A Volxtheater Project on Being Human
What does care mean – as a feeling, as responsibility, and as caring for one another? The Volxtheater project "About Care" invites you to explore these questions together on stage as part of GENIALE 2026. The introductory workshop will take place on November 3, 2026, at the Theaterwerkstatt Bethel in Bielefeld and is aimed at everyone who wants to experience theater in a playful and immediate way.
A Greek Myth as a Dramaturgical Starting Point
At the center is the figure of Cura, the goddess of care. According to a Greek myth, she shaped humans from earth and has accompanied them throughout their lives. From this mythical image, an open theatrical investigation develops: How does care manifest in everyday life? When does it turn into concern, when into caring, anticipating, providing, or nurturing?
Theater Arises from Body, Voice, and Movement
The production does not grow from a finished text, but from shared play. Texts, images, music, and personal experiences serve as the material for scenes, stories, and choreographies. Body awareness, voice, gestures, and movement become dramaturgical tools through which participants make their own perspectives visible.
Volxtheater as a Shared Experiential Space
The Theaterwerkstatt Bethel stands for an inclusive artistic practice where people with different biographies, experiences, and forms of expression collaborate. The Volxtheater opens the stage for a heterogeneous ensemble and sees theater as a meeting: not as a distant observation, but as a living process of trying out, listening, and co-creating.
A Stage Experience with Societal Resonance
"About Care" combines theatrical atmosphere with questions that reach far beyond the rehearsal room. The audience's reaction arises from the closeness of the performance and the recognizability of the theme. Those who participate explore emotions through movement and scene play, deepen their own body awareness, and focus on responsibility – for themselves and for each other.

This introductory workshop promises an immediate stage experience between acting, improvisation, and joint research. "About Care" transforms an old myth into an open theater space for the present. Interested individuals are invited to engage with movement, voice, and encounters and to experience the beginning of a new Volxtheater project live.
