A City Gets Color and a Stage

What does Bielefeld need to become even more colorful, lively, and worth living in? During the theater holidays in the museum, children and young people transform their ideas into their own stage piece. From October 19 to 23, 2026, a creative theater project titled Our Colorful City will be created at the Historical Museum Bielefeld for young city explorers.

From Favorite Places to Big Stage Scenes

At the beginning, there are questions that lead straight into life: Which places in Bielefeld are special? Where is color lacking? What should change? Participants aged 8 to 12 explore their own visions of an ideal city and develop characters, scenes, and theatrical situations from them.

The dramaturgy grows directly from the ideas of the group. Observations become stories, conversations lead to dialogues, and individual ideas form a common theater piece. The young actors experience how directing, acting, stage design, and group play interlink.

Theater Atmosphere in the Historical Museum

The Historical Museum Bielefeld provides a special playing venue for this. Between the historic buildings of the former Ravensberger Spinning Mill, city history and the present come together. The special atmosphere of the museum opens a space for imagination, movement, and perspective change.

The focus is not on the finished stage magic, but on the creative process: experimenting, improvising, discarding, starting anew. Body, voice, light mood, and space become tools with which the children express their view of Bielefeld.

A Holiday Project with a Unique Voice

Our Colorful City strengthens self-confidence, team spirit, and the joy of creating. The young participants learn how a common artistic concept emerges from many different ideas. Every audience reaction begins here with a personal thought that finds the courage to step onto the stage.

The project is a joint offer from the LAG Spiel und Theater NRW e. V. and the Historical Museum Bielefeld. It is funded by the Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Refugee, and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Conclusion: Seeing Bielefeld Anew

The theater holidays in the museum combine cultural education, acting, and city imagination into an intense stage experience. Children and young people experience how their ideas become visible and how a theater moment emerges from a question. Those who want to see Bielefeld with new eyes find in this holiday project an inspiring space for movement, voice, and collective storytelling.
