A special art tour invites you to rediscover Georg Tuxhorn and the second generation of Bielefeld Modernism. On October 27, 2026, Anke von Legat will provide insights into the life and work of the Bielefeld artist as well as his Westphalian artistic environment during a one-hour telephone tour.
Traces of a Young Artist Between Bielefeld, Dresden, and Düsseldorf
Georg Tuxhorn was born in 1903 and studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Bielefeld as well as in Dresden and Düsseldorf. His artistic development is closely linked to the regional art history and Modernism in Westphalia. The tour focuses on an artist who is now considered a nearly forgotten contemporary of Peter August Böckstiegel.
Teutoburg Forest, Senne, and Westphalian Landscape
The familiar landscape around Bielefeld shaped Tuxhorn’s visual world. In particular, the Teutoburg Forest and the Senne became important sources of inspiration for his watercolors.
