A new Fossil Wall tells the story of the world 200 million years ago
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Bielefeld Natural History Museum will unveil its new interactive wall as part of a family opening festival. Behind the curtain of the previous ammonite wall awaits an exhibition unit that vividly, sensually, and interactively conveys prehistory. From 1 PM to 5 PM, families will dive into a long-lost primordial sea and discover traces of primeval beings, Arminisaurus, and dinosaurs.
Examination of work between fossils and primordial sea
The new Fossil Wall connects natural science collections, paleontological research, and cultural education. Fossils, dinosaur tracks, and stories from a time around 200 million years ago provide direct access to Earth's history. Forms, surfaces, and impressions make geological processes visible and transform the exhibition atmosphere into a journey through deep time.
Interactive stations for curious families
A rally leads through parts of the museum and invites visitors to read hidden traces. At the fortune wheel, young and old visitors can test their knowledge. Creative activities complement the examination of work and turn the aesthetic experience of the fossil world into a shared artistic experience of nature.
Experience Paleo-Art live
As a special guest, paleo-artist Joshua Knüppe will showcase his skills. His artistic approach to extinct animals combines scientific imagination with vivid illustration. With a bit of luck, a favorite dinosaur may even be created on request – a personal keepsake of this special museum day.
A family celebration at the Natural History Museum
Juice, coffee, and cake accompany the afternoon. The special exhibition Magic of Light with experiments and optical illusions will also be on display. Thus, the festival connects paleontological discovery, interactive conveyance, and playful nature experience under one roof.
Conclusion: Earth's history to marvel at, question, and participate in
The Family Opening Festival offers a lively artistic experience between fossils, drawing, museum education, and scientific discovery. Those who wish not only to observe the new Fossil Wall but actively explore its stories will experience an inspiring afternoon for the whole family at the Bielefeld Natural History Museum. Admission is free.
