When Words Leave Marks: Emotional Violence Against Children in Focus
Emotional violence often remains invisible – yet it affects deeply. The lecture and discussion event “Not Visible Yet Hurting” invites you to Lichtwerk Bielefeld on November 12, 2026, to talk about emotional violence and boundary violations in family and school.
An Evening for More Attention and Protection
Derogatory words, intimidation, exclusion, or persistent silence leave emotional scars on children. The event aims to recognize less obvious forms of violence, understand their effects, and discuss possible actions.
Four Perspectives on a Sensitive Topic
Four experts will share their experiences from psychology, violence research, youth welfare, education, and prevention. Tobias Hecker from the University of Bielefeld speaks from a clinical-psychological and violence scientific perspective. Anke Berkemeyer represents the youth office. Torsten Schätz, principal of Martin-Niemöller Comprehensive School in Schildesche, adds the educational view. Michael Sandkamp focuses on the prevention of sexualized violence and the development of institutional protection concepts as a supervisor.
Lecture, Reflection, and Joint Discussion
The event combines professional classification with exchange. The focus is on children's rights, the UNICEF campaign #NiemalsGewalt, and the question of when boundary violations begin and when adults must take action. Also discussed are possibilities for prevention and intervention, as well as first contact points for affected individuals.
Moderation by the Social Affairs Director of the City of Bielefeld
The evening will be conducted by Ingo Nürnberger, Social Affairs Director of the City of Bielefeld and patron of UNICEF. The organization is represented by UNICEF-AG Bielefeld. This way, the event management creates a professionally grounded framework for information, self-reflection, and a responsible approach to the target audience.
Conclusion: Looking Together and Empowering Children
The event experience at Lichtwerk is aimed at all who want to better protect children, recognize warning signs, and engage in discussions about emotional violence. The atmosphere among the audience thrives on attention, exchange, and the shared commitment to ensure safety and respectful relationships for children.
